The Wood Element is one of the 5 Elements that serve as metaphors to describe natural cycles within the Body and Mind. It is connected to the Spring season and represents growth, expansion, flexibility, a time of new beginnings and vibrant energy. This is a season of transformation: in Nature, the forces of creation are at their peak: plants sprout, animals awaken, and the world comes alive with new possibilities. The sight of young plants and the colour green nourishes the soul, while simultaneously reducing appetite and naturally encouraging detoxification. Like in Nature, the body starts to cleanse itself, ridding excess stored during Winter.
Just as trees push upwards, spreading their branches towards the sky, the Wood Element within the body symbolizes expansion, creativity, and the drive to move forward in life. The Wood Element governs the Liver and the Gallbladder, the Liver is seen as the “general” that plans for the future, while the Gallbladder executes those plans, helping us navigate life with purpose.
